Irish Prime minister Simon Harris and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez (JTA) |
Spain, Norway and Ireland said Wednesday they would formally recognize a Palestinian state…
Why should recognizing a Palestinian state be considered antisemitic? After all isn’t that the fairest way to solve the problem? Isn’t giving Palestinians their own country and self governance the only way to end their decades long conflict with Israel? Wouldn’t 2 states living side by side - one Jewish and one Palestinian be the best way to move forward? The only way to avoid the population time bomb that would turn Israel’s Jews into a minority ruling government. One that is currently (and wrongly) perceived as an oppressive occupier by Israel’s detractors?
I have always felt that a 2 state solution is the best way to resolve that issue. Much as I would love to have all of biblical Israel restored into Jewish hands where it belongs, I do not see that as feasible in our day for reasons beyond the scope of this post. This is why the majority of world class rabbinic leaders do not believe we should be actively pursuing such a policy. They correctly feel that it would spill a lot of Jewish blood (with no guarantee of success). Instead we should do whatever we can to achieve a peaceful solution that would save Jewish lives.
If that’s how I feel, why do I say that these three European leaders who are basically agreeing with me in principle – are antisemitic?
The answer is simple if anyone with sufficient knowledge of the history of conflict thinks about it for more than half a second. A state of Palestine on the West Bank would become Gaza 2.0! Especially now that the entire world is in essence saying that Israel should end the war before Hamas is obliterated and thereby allow them to rebuild its legions and its infrastructure (such as their terror tunnels).
Just as they took control of Gaza shortly after it was handed over to Palestinians, so too – with the help of Iran and their proxies - will a new state of Palestine on the West Bank be taken over by Hamas. An organization recognized by the entire civilized world as terrorists. Which they had proven beyond a doubt on October 7th. They have sworn (along with its patrons, Iran and their proxies) to wipe Israel off the map. It is in their charter. Is there any sane person that doubts this?
The idea of recognizing a state that doesn’t yet exist in order to spur Israel into actually do something that would be suicidal is the most naïve thing any national leader could do. It is of a naiveté that borders on stupidity of the highest order. Do they not know what happened on October 7th? Did they not witness the videos taken by the Hamas terrorist themselves screaming with glee Alahu Akhbar (God is great!) as they were butchering, mutilating, and raping their Jewish captives? Captives they still hold?
Do the leaders of these 3 European nations think that these ‘religious’ fanatics will somehow become rational human beings with a modicum of human decency? And decide to live side by side with ‘the Jews’ in a 2 state solution? Are they that delusional?
I think the source of their naiveté is the subliminal antisemitism that has always been a part of the European psyche. An antisemitism that plagued European Jews throughout the centuries of their habitation there. It’s there deep down in the depths of their souls. They just don’t realize it. They conveniently hide behind the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Using that concern as an excuse to pressure Israel into a suicidal choice. It’s kind of like what UN Secretary General António Guterres did after condemning the Hamas attack. Blaming the victim by saying what Hamas did - didn’t happen in a vacuum.
I’m sure that the last thing Guterres considers himself to be is antisemitic. After all didn’t he first blame Hamas? Sure. But then he ultimately blamed the Jews for their own massacre. That kind spills the beans about his own subliminal antisemitism.
As Prime Minister Netanyahu said in denouncing them - what these 3 world leaders have done is reward Hamas terrorism. Hamas committed these atrocities and got one step closer to their ‘step two’ - getting their own state. And that will be closer to their ‘step three’ - the ultimate goal of freeing Palestine from the river to the sea.
On of the sad byproducts about developments like this is that they often have popular support. I would not be surprised if a lot of fine and decent Americans that support Israel - also support a 2 state solution. Like I said, on the surface it makes a lot of sense. That 3 additional European leaders will now be recognize the state of Palestine makes them feel more secure about that view.
But these good people are not as aware of all the above-mentioned negative aspects that makes a 2 state solution a prescription for the destruction of Israel that would include a bloodbath for its residents.
On the other hand, the leaders of European ought to know better. Which is why I think that ultimately it is a function of their ancient but currently subliminal antisemitism. They may not be aware of but exists deep down.
Like I always say paraphrasing former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir) antisemitism is in the mother’s milk of Europeans. That has not changed. I believe it now more than ever.
