Kavod HaTorah

YWN reports on a visit yesterday to the Israeli town of Bnei Brak by President Shimon Peres. The visit was protested by some residents (pictured) of Ramat bet Shemesh and Jerusalem bussed in (2 busloads!) for the occasion. They put up posters an carried signs. They even threw some rocks at him.

I understand this protest. They feel they do not want to give honor to the political heir of Theodor Herzl, the evil founder of Zionism. I mean if I were there I would have thrown some rocks at him too. Too bad they didn’t hit him in the head.

But what I cannot understand is why an elderly Gadol - R’ Aharon Leib Steinman gave Peres honor by allowing him into his home? Why wasn’t Rav Steinman given the same treatment? How dare he allow this Rasha - Peres! …to enter his home? I would think that Kavod Shamyim demanded this Chilul HaShem by Rav Steinman be strongly protested! But it wasn't! Harumph!

It’s not too late however. I would urge these great ‘soldiers of God’ to sneak into R’ Steinman’s house and pelt him good with some rocks! Perhaps a good bleeding gash in the head will teach him some Kavod HaTorah.

I recall a few years ago a similar band of 'Godly soldiers' from Brisk in Israel pelted the eldery Gadol, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv with tomatoes because he permitted construction on some gravesites. They really got him good! That took courage. Where are these courageous Jews now?

What more important issue facing Judaism can there be in the Torah world than standing up to this Rasha Shimon Peres - and the man who gave him Kavod?! Pelting them with rocks is the least they can do! Last time it was tomatoes, But apparently these so-called rabbinic leaders were not moved by tomatoes. They did not learn Kavod HaTorah. Rocks. That’s what they need. Not tomatoes.
