Rabbi Yair Hoffman has done some investigation and has issued his perspective on VIN. I generally trust his judgement but remain skeptical. Even if this couple did not intend a fraud (which is yet to be proven) their ineptitude in making their case resulted in the same Chilul HaShem.
In my opinion the judge is not guilty of any anti-Semitism and even if mistaken in her verdict she arrived at her decision honestly. Her view of the Jewish people was surely not enhanced by this case. And neither was anyone else’s view of us - who watched it. Even in the best case scenario where they are completely innocent (which remains to be seen) - they chose to be on the show. That resulted in a Chilul HaShem. And that is inexcusable.
