AOC, Schiff, and Trump (New York Post) |
New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused President Donald Trump of engaging in “targeted” anti-Semitism toward California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff in a Saturday tweet.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments came after the president condemned the House Intelligence Committee chairman, who is Jewish, for fabricating part of his opening statement during a Sept. 26 hearing regarding Trump’s July phone call with Ukraine’s president.
Well, I guess that makes me antisemitic too. Because I have
about as much ‘respect’ for Adam Schiff as the President does.
First, let me hasten to add a couple of things.
1. I do NOT believe Ocasio-Cortez is an antisemite. She is just another politician.
2. This has nothing to do with whether the President is or is not guilty of an impeachable offence. (More about that later.)
What about her accusations of targeted antisemitic rhetoric against Schiff?
Well, you can’t be an antisemite if you have a resume with respect to Jews like the one Trump has. The President’s beloved daughter is Jewish. As are his grandchildren.
An antimesmite would never have allowed his daughter to marry a Jew. And certainly not treat him as a senior advisor.
An antisemite would not surround himself with numerous Jewish advisors - both before the election and after.
An antisemite also would not declare Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel.
An antisemite would not have commuted the prison sentence of a highly identifiable Chasidic Jew.
An antisemite would not be anywhere near an annual parade that supports Israel (let alone lead the parade as Trump did long before he became President).
Ocasio-Cortez knows all this. Which is why her accusation makes her little more than the typical lying politician.

What about Schiff? Is he not Jewish? If his mother was, then yes he is. But, there is little if any evidence of it in his daily life that I am aware of. The one thing that we do know is that unlike the President, Schiff has no Jewish children or grandchildren. He married out. Which shows just how much he cares about his Judaism. (Which is Zero - if you don’t care enough to perpetuate it through your own children.)
Every time Schiff opens his mouth about the President, it is filled with venom. He couches his criticism in the righteous indignation of a patriot whose only interest is his constitutional duty as a member of the Legislative Branch of government. And from that lofty perch he pontificates about how ‘obviously’ guilty the President is! The latest of which is an accusation that the President tried to manufacture evidence of corruption by Joe Biden's son. I heard him say that in numerous recently.
No one has said that. The accusation is that the President used pressure on a foreign leader to find evidence of corruption for political reasons. Not to manufacture any.
Schiff is a political hack whose only interest is in ‘our’ side winning - meaning the Democrats taking over the reins of power.
And oh what a beautiful target the unscrupulous Schiff now has to advance his party’s cause. Trump is the perfect foil. He makes it so easy for Schiff to sound indignant. Schiff can even lie without being called on it by a media that sees things exactly the same way he does.
Take Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd for example. On last Sunday’s broadcast - the introductory piece Todd did before interviewing representatives of both political parties was so biased against Trump that I could not believe my ears. He sounded as though it wasn’t even possible for anyone else to see Trump’s behavior as anything other than grossly impeachable.
Except that almost everyone in the opposing political party does NOT think that way at all. After Todd’s hit piece, the Republican was so outraged by the bias that he became agitated and refused to participate in the interview. Todd could not believe that the Republican didn't agree with him.
The truth, however, is unclear. Unless you are a dyed in the wool Democrat and believe he is guilty as sin... or a dyed in the wool Republican and believe he is as pure as the driven snow (as far as impeachment is concerned).
One may ask, what about Trump’s negatives? They exist. In spades! He is a seriously flawed man. He wrote the book on lies and innuendo. His ego driven rhetoric and his impulsive erratic governing style - compared to the calm and deliberate style of Schiff makes Schiff look like a saint by comparison.
But outward appearances can be deceiving.
As I recently said, what matters at the end of the day is what voters think. How will all this play out come election time? The Senate will surely not vote to remove Trump from office despite the fact that the House will surely vote to impeach him.
My guess is that all of this will play in Trump’s favor. Nothing will rally his base more than all this. As it will the Democratic base against him. Those two camps are pretty much evenly divided. But as I also pointed out recently - a lot of swing voters who are tired of the politics and a ‘do nothing’ congress - blaming it all on the Democrats’ obsession with Trump, and the votes could easily swing Trump’s way. Add to that a soaring economy which a sitting President must be given credit for, and I think we will be seeing 4 more years. Despite what the polls might be saying now.
I think deep down Democrats might suspect that he will win the next election, too. And that’s why they are trying so hard to get rid of him.
